Massey University course and information booklets

This is a collection of informational booklets produced by the university over the course of its history. These booklets show what courses and services were available at the time.

Massey Prospectus (1964-1970)

This publication was initially called Prospectus of Courses, then later renamed Details of Courses. It provides an outline of the courses that were on offer at Massey University.

Information Series and course booklets (1972-1988)

In 1971 Massey University began to produce a series of numbered booklets that contained information on its degrees and diplomas as well as general information about the university.

The booklets were usually published the year prior - a booklet produced in July 1972 would thus be for the 1973 academic year, but there are exceptions to this. At the back of each volume is a list of all booklets produced that year, although there can be variations if additional publications were added to the sequence over the year (this is particularly noticeable with the 1973 booklets). 

The university ceased to produce these as a numbered sequence in 1988 and stopped the publication of many of the general information booklets or began treating them as standalone publications.

Holdings vary for each year and are particularly incomplete for 1975 to 1978.

Course booklets (1989-1998)

From 1989 Massey University produced a series of course booklets for prospective students. Unlike the earlier Information Series these were not numbered. A standard order form at the back of each booklet listed the booklet available for a particular year.

A booklet for postgraduate courses was included in this series from 1989 (none are presently held). It seems that from 1990 they were separated into their own series.

In 1998 courses were grouped into one booklet for each of the university's colleges. These booklets were eventually replaced by the Enrolment book and the In Detail book.

Holdings vary for each year and are particularly incomplete for 1994 to 1998. Not all books held for those years have been digitised yet.

Postgraduate Courses and Research (1991-1998)

This is a sequence of course booklets created by Massey University for prospective postgraduate students. See the Information Series for earlier booklets. The earliest book held is from 1991. It is unclear if any were published for the 1990 academic year.

These booklets were replaced by the Enrolment book. Holdings are incomplete and vary for each year. Only two have been digitised and made available online.

Enrolment booklets (1999-2012)

The Enrolment booklets were produced from 1999 to 2012. From 2012 onwards, enrolment information was provided online. For the years 1999 and 2000 they do not have “Enrolment” printed on the cover, but the content is substantially the same as that of the 2001 to 2012 books. 

These books provided information on possible degree options for prospective students and replace the earlier undergraduate and postgraduate course booklets.

Holdings vary for each year. Some issues for 2000 to 2001 are still to be digitised.

In Detail / Introducing / Your Guide / Programme Guide (2000-present)

These booklets provide information on possible degree options for prospective students and the possible career paths they could follow. More detailed information on course offerings can be found in the Enrolment book.

In 2000 this publication was titled “In Detail”. From 2001 the publication was retitled “Introducing”. From the 2013 edition it was retitled once again to “Your Guide to…”. From 2021 it ceased to have an overall title and just had the name of the subject on the cover. From 2022 it was titled Programme Guide.

Holdings are incomplete for 2000 to 2002, but complete after this.
