In the left portion of the main campus area (surrounded by the ring road - University Avenue) are Wharerata, the Social Sciences Complex, the old Main Building, the old Registry Building, Tiritea House, the Student Centre and the Library.

To the left of the Main Building and the Social Sciences Complex are the buildings that were originally built as the wool classing, farm machinery, carpenters' workshop, fitter shop and the concrete shop facilities for Massey Agricultural College, but would be reused for multiple purposes over the following years, and are today known as the Courtyard Complex. At this time they were being used by Ground Maintenance and Service Maintenance.

In the bottom portion are the Bernard Chambers Building and the Veterinary Sciences Complex, while in the right portion are the brand new Agricultural Engineering Building, the Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Buildings A and B (nearing completion), the Riddet Complex and Colombo Hall.

In the top portion are the Old Hostel, the Refectory, McHardy Hall, the Rehab Hostels and the Young Farmers' Club Memorial Hostel, while the centre of the campus is dominated by the Science Towers and the Wool Department Building.

Walter Dyer Hall and Craiglockhart (also known as Moginie House) are in front of the Bernard Chambers Building, on the opposite side of Tennant Drive, while the old Water Tower is located among the trees some distance behind the Main Building. Note the foundations for the tower's replacement.

On the outside of University Drive are the Boiler House (opposite the Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Buildings), the interim Biology Building and the Wool Building (to the right of Colombo Hall and the Riddet Complex), the new City, Egmont and Rotary Court student residences (diagonally above Colombo Hall), and the Sports and Recreation Centre (some distance behind City Court).
