Visible in the centre of the image are the Old Main Building, the Registry Building, the Student Centre, the Science Towers (note the fourth tower under construction behind the third), the Library and the Social Sciences Complex, with Wharerata just below the latter.

On the left are the Old Hostel, Refectory, McHardy Hall, the Young Farmers' Club Memorial Hostel, the Rehab Hostels and the four Court Hostels. A short distance behind the latter is the Recreation Centre (at the very top of the image), while the Biology Building and the Wool Building are to the right of the Court Hostels.

The Bernard Chambers Building, Veterinary Science Complex and Boiler House (the latter on the other side of University Avenue - the ring road surrounding the main campus area) are on the right, and the Riddet Complex and Colombo Hall are behind the Science Towers, with the buildings used by the Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences Department to the right of the Riddet Complex.

In the foreground are are the buildings that were originally built as the wool classing, farm machinery, carpenters' workshop, fitter shop and the concrete shop facilities for Massey Agricultural College. At this time they were being used by Ground Maintenance and Service Maintenance, though they would move out within a few years, and the buildings would be used to house a series of shops - including the University Bookshop - thus becoming the Commercial Complex.
