In the left centre of the image, around the area known as the Oval, are some of the buildings that were built during the Massey Agricultural College era: the Old Hostel, the Refectory, McHardy Hall, Tiritea House, the old Registry Building and the old Main Building (clockwise from lower left). Behind these are the Rehab Hostels, the Young Farmers' Club Memorial Hostel, the Court Hostels, and the playing grounds for the Sports and Recreation Centre - which itself is hidden behind a cluster of trees.

In the centre are the Registry Building, the Library (note the new extension), the Student Centre, the Science Towers, the Riddet Complex, Colombo Hall, the Wool Building, and the Biology Building (originally called the interim Biology Building, it would ultimately become known as the Ecology Building). To the immediate right of the Registry Building, and slightly in front of the Library is the Social Sciences Complex, with Wharerata and its gardens in front of the latter.

On the right are the Bernard Chambers Building, the Veterinary Sciences Complex, the Boiler House and the buildings used by the Faculty of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences.
