An imposing view of Wharerata, built in 1901 of native timbers and designed by Charles Natusch for Arthur Edward Russell, whose family owned the house until it was acquired for Massey Agricultural College in May 1951.

Note the sunken garden in the foreground, and the altered west wing (on the right of this image) which indicates the date as being after the extension made to the building and the alterations made to the gardens in 1930.
