Three year old Roger Peren, son of Professor Geoffrey Peren, kicks off the first rugby game played by a junior grade team from Massey Agricultural College at the Showgrounds in Palmerston North. The game was lost to High School Old Boys, with a score of 23-3.

Seen here in the foreground, from left: J.R. Cossill, Professor Peren, Roger Peren and C.P. McMeekan. The shed in the background burnt down in later years 1939-1945.
