Palmerston North College of Education Students' Association publications

The Students' Association had several name changes over the years. These include:

1956-1972: Palmerston North Teachers’ College Students’ Association.
1973-1980: Palmerston North Teachers' College Students' Association Incorporated.
1980-1989: Palmerston North Teachers' College Trainees’ Association Incorporated.
1990-1996: Palmerston North College of Education Students' Association.
1996-2011: Massey University College of Education Students’ Association (MUCESA).

The association produced many different publications over time. Some of these were:

Incipe, 1957-1966

Incipe was the annual magazine of the college students. Each issue usually contains a message from the Principal, a report from the Association President, creative writing by the students and updates on the activities of the various cultural and sports clubs. It was published from 1957 to 1966. No issue is held for 1964.

Newsreal, 1956-1965

Newsreal was the first newsletter/magazine published by the Students’ Association. The first three issues had no title. It was from August 1956 that the title Newsreal started to be used. Part way through 1965 Newsreal was replaced by Insight.

Teacher's and Insight, 1965-1967

The magazine titled, Teacher's, provided an overview of social events at the college for each term. Issues are only held for the end of 1964 and Term 1 and 2 of 1965. Insight was produced as a replacement for Newsreal from 1965 to 1967.

Earwig/Tackle/Bug, 1967-1971

This was a student publication introduced to replace Insight magazine. Initially named Earwig, the Publications Committee was forced to change the name in 1969 as the previous editor had registered the name Earwig for his own personal use. The name Tackle was initially chosen (see issues 1-4), but then replaced with a question mark (also referred to as Query, see issues 5-7). From issue 8, it was titled Bug, a title which it retained until the end in 1971.

Assorted titles, 1972-1982

After 1971 a series of short-lived publications were created:

Shaft, 1972
Action/Forum, 1973-1975
The New Forum, 1976
Earwig 2, 1977
Wotsth'guts, 1979
Concrete and Cobwebs, 1980
Voice, 1981
Anything Goes, 1982

Most of these only appeared as one or two issues.
