Commemorative chart of New Zealand including Norfolk and Campbell Is: Cook bicentenary 1769-1969

Narrative on the chart reads, 'This chart is published to commemorate the bicentenary of Cooks' landing in New Zealand on the 9th of October 1969.

The inset below shows the first published chart of New Zealand which was based on the exploration in 1769-70 by the great navigator James Cook.

This was the forerunner of successive charts depicting New Zealand culminating in this edition on which the majority of the deep ocean soundings are derived from depths recorded on passage by ships of many nations.

This serves to illustrate how many accumulated efforts of hydrographic surveyors, navigators and cartographs have been combined to produce a chart designed for modern navigational requirements  and a record of achievement in man's increasing knowledge of the oceans.'
