H.M.S. Lord Nelson was the last of the so-called "pre-dreadnought" battleships to be built for the Royal Navy. By the time of her launch in 1906 she was already obsolescent and would soon be outclassed by the dreadnought-type ships that would be launched by the maritime powers from then on. Nonethess, she played her part in WWI, including a role at Gallipoli and the Dardanelles, and she survived the war, only to be scrapped in 1920.

This real-photo postcard shows her at sea, sometime between her completion in 1908 and the beginning of the war.

The message on the back of the postcard reads 'Dear Sis. Our last must have crossed everything all can do Best love to all Yrs Ern'.
