This real photo postcard depicts an unidentified group of New Zealand soldiers, somewhere in the U.K., sometime during the First World War.
We have placed it here hoping that someone may be able to identify the place, the time or the people. There are some clues, especially in the message on the back of the card (the spelling, etc., is exactly as written):
"the mes is the hut behind the tal chap on the left with cigeret in his mouth I am marked with a cros note some of the lads on crutches oll[?] going home to NZ"
The card is addressed to "Mrs W Robbie, Windsor, North Otago, New Zealand" - it's not stamped or postmarked so was probably posted in an envelope.
Note that the photograph (numbered 971) was produced by J.M. Flatan, 88 Ley St, Ilford. It's possible that this camp was somewhere in the vicinity of Ilford.
