Description

Massey Agricultural College swimming pool, or swimming baths, was built by students as part of their work for the Farm Practical Course. It was officially opened on 6 March 1935 by the rector of the Palmerston North Boys' High School, Mr J. Murray.

Thanks to the labour carried out by the students and the generous donations of money and materials by wellwishers, the pool had cost the College nothing.

For several decades the pool provided entertainment to students and staff until cracks, and associated repair costs, led to its closure in the 1960s. In the 1980s it was filled in to provide room for the Business Studies car park. One of the sides of the pool was saved and is still visible today in this car park.
